Hello, I’m Elizabeth Shih. I specialize in teaching newcomers and newcomer entrepreneurs like you English as a Second Language, through which you sell your services or secure better jobs.
Born and raised in Saskatoon, I gained a graduate education in English literature and language in Southern Ontario (MA, ABD), before returning to Saskatoon to train as a teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL). As a language teacher, writer and editor, I contribute to Saskatoon’s vibrant business community.
As an ESL teacher, I have versatility from having previously worked as a professional copywriter and editor. I have written and published peer-reviewed articles, book reviews and newsletters in both business and academic journals.
I have also gained teaching experience at universities in Southern Ontario and through local companies and not-for-profit organizations in Saskatchewan, such as the Praxis School of Entrepreneurship (PSE) and the Truly Alive Youth & Family Foundation, Inc. (TAYFFI).
For the past three+ years, I have taught and customized classes for students on English grammar, structure, pronunciation, conversation and accent reduction (ESL). I teach both online (via Zoom) and, for more advanced students, in-person classes.
As a newcomer entrepreneur or employee, do you want to find your voice and passion to succeed, through which you also give back to our community?
CEO, High Performance Human Resources
My goal is for the contributions of newcomers like you to be heard, seen and appreciated, through strong English language skills. By studying with me, you will find you can bridge the gap that separates you from the rest of the working world: Our community needs to better understand and respect how much you have to share!
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) tells us that seventy-five percent (75%) of Saskatchewan’s economy is built on small businesses (with five or fewer staff). That number in fact applies to most provinces in the country. It’s long past due to for you to shine by sharing your remarkable businesses or skills.
While I love teaching language and writing, I also appreciate whimsy and humour, along the way. This website reflects a touch of that irreverence and fun. I hope it might inspire your own creativity . . . .
